I have been working with Batik for many years now and find this medium a rewarding and challenging art form. Creating art using this technique is an exciting journey as each new piece takes on a life of its own emerging and changing as each separate layer of wax and dye is applied. The cracks produced by the wax are characteristic of Batik and gives each art work its own distinctive quality and texture.
My art is inspired by the beauty of the Land and the elegance of nature.The rich red dirt of the Australian Outback, the shades of ochres, the colours & textures beneath the surfaces of the rivers and the reflections on their waters captivate me. Nature is rich in the patterns river courses form, in the fine details within rocks and their crevasses, the grains and colours in sandstone that have been embedded therein over the centuries as well as the textures of paper bark and gum trees. Sunrises and sunsets paint the sky and set the landscape ablaze. |
